The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill for candidates to participate in the PD Summer Internship Programme 2020 in the Policy and Programme Department (PD).
The position will be based in the VAM/M&E unit - JOCO, Amman, Jordan. The internship will be typically for the period of at least 3 months during May/June to August/ September 2020.
Brief description of WFP activities and VAM/M&E Unit in Amman, Jordan
WFP has been a strategic and operational partner of the Government of Jordan since 1964 assisting vulnerable and food insecure Jordanians and, most recently, supporting the national management of the refugee crisis and its consequences, including below operations:
1. Humanitarian support:
WFP Jordan responds to the basic food requirements of the 500,000 most food insecure Syrian refugees by providing them with cash and food-restricted vouchers.
2. Support to social protection programmes:
WFP provides financial and technical support to the Government of Jordan with a focus on social protection schemes to enhance the design and implementation of effective and efficient programmes in support of vulnerable Jordanians.
3. Livelihood support:
In collaboration with ministries and national actors, WFP works on strengthening the self-reliance of refugees and vulnerable Jordanians by investing in their skills, capacities and public asset base.
The JOCO VAM/M&E unit works to meet monitoring requirements for activities under the 2020-2022 Country Strategic Plan (CSP). The unit is collecting high quality data to be analyzed and shared with relevant internal and external counterparties, to enable evidence-based decision-making, and with a view to cover data gaps that are essential to the future direction of the CO as well as work to build partners' capacity to do the same.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Title of Post: Monitoring &Evaluation (M&E)

Duration: At least 3 months (May/June to August/September 2020)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the VAM/M&E Unit, the PD Summer Intern will perform the following duties:
Analyse quantitative and qualitative information to evaluate the performance and results of each activity
Provide coordination support of internal meetings, external meetings with governmental counterparts, and other M&E-related activities.
Work closely with external implementing partners and project management offices to ensure the outputs are delivered timely and transparently
Assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within M&E
Provide specialized M&E support to specific and/or defined programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP's policies and procedures
Prepare a range of reports and data analysis (e.g. food assistance needs, resource utilization, programme status, performance) and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control
Perform accurate, timely recording of data within M&E and ensure consistency of information presented to stakeholders
Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration and monitoring of ongoing project activities
Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within M&E
Constructive coordination with programme and support functions within WFP
Other tasks as requested by Supervisor
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
Currently enrolled in a master's degree programme OR a recent graduate of a master's degree (graduated within the last 6 months)
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook)
Excellent English verbal and writing skills
Strong analytical and report writing skills
First experiences with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
WORKING LANGUAGES
Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) is required.
Supervision (Level/Methods of Supervision)
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the VAM & M&E Unit, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. The Deputy Country Director will be the second-level supervisor. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

Living conditions in Amman, Jordan
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is strategically located in the Middle East covering a diversity of landscapes. Bound by Syria to the north, Iraq to the northeast, Saudi Arabia to the east and south, the Red Sea to the south and Israel and the Palestinian National Authority to the west.
Jordan is a relatively stable country. The overall security in Amman, as well as most areas in Jordan, is stable and considered safe. The country is predominantly Muslim, and the culture is very open to foreigners. The potentials for internal or external armed conflict are considered very unlikely in the current political environment. Peaceful demonstrations, and sometimes road blockages, do occur in Jordan motivated by domestic factors such as unemployment, deprivation of resources and development or for regional issues such as solidarity with the Palestinian cause or with the Syrian crises. Most of these events are driven by civil society unions and Islamic parties. Domestic tribal civil unrest sometimes turning violent especially outside the main cities due to tribal dispute or socio-economic reasons. In all occasions law enforcement agencies usually manage to contain the situation.
Road traffic accidents are the primary threat against UN personnel in Jordan. Poor road conditions and bad driving behaviours are the main reasons for the high rate for traffic accidents.
Amman is built on seven hills and known for its imposing mountainous terrain, Amman enjoys a moderate climate year-round with 330 sunny days per year. People are increasingly leading more active lifestyles with world-class gyms and fitness centers becoming the norm. Amman also offers great food, from local street food favorites such as falafel and shawarma to fine dining establishments.
Other relevant information
Language: The official language of Jordan is Arabic, but English is widely spoken - especially in the cities.
Health Services: Medical facilities are generally very good, particularly in Amman where there are several modern, well-equipped public and private hospitals. Almost all doctors (and most pharmacists) speak English
TERM AND CONDITIONS
The PD intern will be paid a monthly stipend of approximately USD 800 per month as a contribution towards basic subsistence costs.
WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
WFP will recognize candidates' educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
